Antibiofilm effect of Theobroma cacao (cacao pod) extract on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans biofilm in vitro

Successful of periodontal treatment is to eradicate biofilm bacteria. Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans a Gram-negative bacterium that have been suggested be the main causes disease. Theobroma cacao (cacao pod) medicinal plant has broad range pharmacological effects. The aim this study was assess antibiofilm effect pod extract against A. in vitro. were cultured Brain Heart Infusion broth. Crystal-violet staining assays used evaluate on ATCC 33384 biofilms and 0.2% chlorhexidine-gluconate as positive control. After 24 hours incubation, optical density each well microtiter plates measured. results showed after incubation with significantly decreased all concentrations times (p<0.05). most effective concentration for inhibiting 100% 3 hrs time (p<0.05) 98.9% reduction compared negative Cacao growth biofilm.
